The family firm is the predominant form of private business in industrial capitalism. This study analyses the entrepreneurial strategies of six Dutch family firms in the period between 1880 until 1970. The in-depth case studies reconstruct the succession strategies and the strategies in the capital market and the labour market, as well as the strategies regarding the supply of raw materials and the marketing strategies. The study includes a profound comparison between the six individual cases and a comparison between two clusters of the family firms and their social networks. This book will serve the study of family firms. In addition the study contributes to the business history of Jewish entrepreneurs and to the historiography of the Zaanstreek, the old wind-mill region in the Netherlands that experienced a new industrialisation in the late nineteenth century.
